The Cultural Sales Leader: Sustaining People, Attaining Results

The first thing that struck me about Smith Publicity was the authenticity of their approach. They really take the time to get to know you, your story, and your voice, as well as your material. I was assigned to a team and whilst we only worked on a short program of a couple of months, the results were excellent. Through a combination of placed articles, podcasts and interviews, I have been able to establish a voice for my areas of expertise, which can become a platform not only for my books, but a launchpad for other associated endeavors. Smith Publicity has extensive contacts, pitch and communicate exceptionally well, and are consummate, as well as, enthusiastic professionals.

They are also a great sounding board for brainstorming and suggesting approaches, which again as a newbie, I found invaluable. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone embarking on a publicity campaign, or anyone wishing to find channels to promote their products or thought leadership…

Coach Yourself!: Increase Awareness, Change Behavior, and Thrive (Wiley)

As a first time author, it is bewildering to figure out exactly what you need for PR and who can deliver it. I was lucky to get a referral to Smith Publicity. They are very professional and buttoned up. At the same time, they are kind and patient (exactly what first time authors need!). I was very happy with the doors they opened for me – interviews, podcasts and articles. And their work style is transparent, their follow up is thorough and their organizational skills are strong. My team was terrific. And I also appreciated how leadership at the company made themselves available to me to answer questions before the campaign started.

“The team was responsive to my requests, worked with the podcast producers to ensure I was set, provided additional lists when requested (e.g., bookstore list, award list, etc.), tried different pitch approaches, reached out to different outlets, and hustled to try to get me in front of the right people, etc.  I am very happy about my positive experience with Smith Publicity!

The Brain-Friendly Workplace: Why Talented People Quit and How to Get Them to Stay

I had the pleasure of working with Smith Publicity for the publicity campaign for my most recent book, The Brain-Friendly Workplace: Why Talented People Quit and How to Get Them to Stay (Wall Street Journal bestseller) Despite living halfway around the world, my lead publicist, Emily, made sure that we could communicate consistently and efficiently to support my book launch. I appreciated their willingness and openness to discuss feedback and adjust where needed to fit my vision better. Overall it was a lovely and successful experience working with Smith Publicity.

Living Beyond What If?

Working with Smith Publicity has been the most rewarding experience I’ve had with a PR firm. I am so grateful for all of the wonderful work done by Ashlee White and Janet Shapiro (early on before she was promoted) and how it has opened new doors of opportunities and greater exposure for me. Ashlee was consistently professional, responsive, flexible, open to new ideas and feedback and was so committed to making sure my brand was represented in the best way. Of course, the BIG win was being featured on the front page of Oprah Daily and landing a spot in the Harvard Business Review and Fast Company. While my contract was initially slated for a few months, the value that SP brought to my work caused me to renew it three times. I would recommend SP to anyone who wants to work with a firm with a wide reach to media, a committed team of professionals (aka partners) that get to know you and your brand, and a firm that takes pride in providing top quality representation.

The Revenue Acceleration Playbook: Creating an Authentic Buyer Journey Across Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success

In picking Smith Publicity to promote my first book I had two goals — getting high profile byline placements and identifying a couple of magazines that were good fits for on-going byline placements. Smith knocked it out of the park on both!

Jumping into the Parade and Old School with New Tools

Smith Publicity made my book launch process easy, fun and successful. From day one everyone was fabulous on making suggestions, anticipating my needs and never missing a beat on follow up with all parties they reached out to on my behalf. The Dividends of Decency: How Values-Based Leadership will Help Business Flourish in Trump's America

I faced a daunting task once my book, The Dividends of Decency, was published. I had a book with a powerful and much needed message, but I also had a ‘business’ non-fiction book written by a new and unknown author competing for attention with countless other books.

My responsibility was to get attention for my book and get the message out to the world – an impossible task to accomplish on my own. So I made a brilliant decision and I hired Smith Publicity. The results were astounding. They got stunning coverage for this first time author. You can see what they achieved by looking at the “Media” page of my web site, donsheppard.com.

What distinguishes Smith Publicity from other PR firms is their credibility with media and the respect they have within that community. The integrity, ethics, and values embodied by my Smith Publicity publicists and being recognized by everyone they interact with meant my work was, at the least, given a fair review.

As I look back on that journey with Smith, I’m awed by what they accomplished. I’ll be a lifelong fan.

The Participation Game: How the Top 100 Brands Build Loyalty In A Skeptical World

I really enjoy my professional engagement of the entire Smith organization – and particularly my publicist. The most critical metric is that the opportunities we’ve garnered have been consistent for the last several years. I had two previous PR agencies and none have measured up to the quality and volume of exposure that Smith has been able to muster. We continue to be impressed.

Born to Do It: Becoming the Leader of a Business Niche Using Powerful Spiritual Techniques
I worked with Smith Publicity for an extended period of time and not only did they always deliver results but they were a dream to work with — their communication was clear, they were friendly, warm and efficient. They care about their clients and their books and never miss a deadline. Their pitching was very creative which helped significantly to get me featured in Forbes (twice), Good Housekeeping, Parade, Ladders, Ms. Career Girl and lots of podcasts. I will always hire Smith Publicity to take care of my PR needs and I’m so glad to have discovered them through a mutual friend – they really are perfect.

The Conscience Code: Lead with Your Values. Advance Your Career

Rock the Boat: Embrace Change, Encourage Innovation, and Be a Successful Leader

I was impressed with how quickly and broadly my Smith Publicity publicist helped to promote my book, Rock the Boat: Embrace Change, Encourage Innovation, and Be a Successful Leader.  My publicist aggressively pursued multiple outlets and media—podcasts, TV and radio Interviews, Op-Eds, interviews in journals etc.—using her vast network of outstanding connections. Smith expertly captured my ‘brand’ and was able to communicate that to media and obtain interviews and opportunities for me I would not have been able to get on my own.  I highly recommend Smith Publicity for anyone looking to expand their media reach.

Results at the Top: Using Gender Intelligence to Create Breakthrough Growth

I have used many publicists over the 30 years of running my business and writing books, and, I must say, Smith Publicity stood out as the best firm I have ever worked with. My Smith publicists went above and beyond their responsibilities, they became so well versed on the topic of Gender Intelligence and their level of enthusiasm and creativity was something to be admired. In fact, I valued this so much that I have decided to re-engage the firm after the book publishing time line.

Mastering the Basics: Simple Lessons for Achieving Success in Business

The team at Smith Publicity was so well organized and each week I received a detailed recap of media placements, feedback from contacts, new opportunities for me to consider, and priority media targets for future exploratory efforts. A pleasure to work with, they know the business, and I have no hesitation in recommending them highly for anyone considering book marketing and author promotional service.

I could not be happier with the work done by Smith Publicity and my publicist as well as the quality of the media contacts, the number and quality of the interviews, and the number of PR and publishing opportunities they found for me. They did such a great job that I’m actually happy to see my campaign come to an end because I need a rest! Before the campaign started, I didn’t really know what to expect or how much work would be required on my part. It is a testament to the power of their media contacts and expertise in their field that I had so many requests for articles, interviews, Q&As, podcasts, etc. (I believe there were 15 on the first day), that I could barely stand it and found it hard to fulfill all of the opportunities they found for me and also get my regular work done. These are all really good things. I feel that I have certainly gotten my money’s worth. The book sold well, and my name and reputation were well established. I happily recommend Smith Publicity to anyone who may be considering publicity services.

Woman Up!: Overcome the 7 Deadly Sins that Sabotage Your Success

As a first-time author, my goal was to market my book to gain greater national exposure and expand my keynote speaking…and I knew I couldn’t do it alone. My publicist and the entire Smith Publicity team understood my vision, created a true win-win partnership, and have exceeded my expectations every step of the way. The level of responsiveness, clear communication, attention to detail, creative thinking, and overall client service is unmatched. In the first week of my contract, my publicist got me into the Wall Street Journal, and since then I’ve appeared in countless national publications, radio shows, and television programs. The number of doors and new opportunities that have opened up as a result of this proactive, targeted, and strategic publicity is overwhelming. Writing a book is hard, but marketing a book is even harder…which is why you need the experts at Smith Publicity. Smith is the greatest investment I have ever made in myself, and my business, and it’s worth every penny.

The Loyalist Team: How Trust, Candor, and Authenticity Create Great Organizations

We worked with Smith Publicity for nine months following the publication of our first book. I cannot say enough about my publicist and the quality of her work. She is everything you would want in a partner – passionate, hard-working, high-energy, and organized. Additionally, she has obviously built strong relationships with so many people at numerous publications. Her success rate in landing us interviews, podcasts, and articles was outstanding. Raise the Bar, Change the Game

I used the services of Smith Publicity for two months to promote my new book Raise the Bar, Change the Game with no idea what would happen. I was allocated two publicists to front my campaign. Well, in the first week I started to get countless offers for interviews and bylines and in short order I had so many offers I kept getting confused with what I had to do and had to get my PA to manage my diary! Both of them managed to get the essential messages across to the media so it was easy for me to follow what was needed from me. I am looking forward to using them again to promote my audiobook. Highly recommended.

The Purpose Is Profit: The Truth about Starting and Building Your Own Business

Our publisher, Greenleaf Book Group, recommended Smith Publicity, and we are so pleased we took their advice. At our first meeting with our publicist and other Smith team members, it was clear they had thoroughly read our book. Our publicist had already marked passages and quotes that she was certain would spark the interest of the media.

Shortly after that initial meeting my publicist wasted no time lining up media opportunities to publicize the book during the run-up to our publication date and beyond. The opportunities included byline articles placed in relevant online media publications, radio and podcast interviews for the authors, book reviews, and placement of books excerpts in major online media, such as Fortune.

After the release of The Purpose Is Profit, Smith continued to pitch media with new angles, securing us with new opportunities. We do not hesitate to recommend Smith Publicity to authors looking to raise awareness of their book.

New Neighborhoods: The Consumer’s Guide to Condominium, Co-Op and HOA Living

We knew it might be difficult to promote our book to a very specific audience that is not well represented by the mainstream media. From the very beginning our publicist did an excellent job of placing the book in both targeted publications (such as Habitat Magazine) as well as mass-market media including NPR and Fox Business News. My name was consistently and frequently mentioned across the country. As a result of working with Smith Publicity, I received a number of inquiries from people for interviews who found me through media coverage. In short, Smith Publicity did an excellent job of promoting our book!

The Philosophical Investor: Transforming Wisdom into Wealth

Although I was a first time author when I began working with Smith Publicity, I was clear about the target audience I wanted to reach. She put in great effort on my behalf and kept me well informed. I am very pleased with the results that were achieved and Smith Publicity to other authors.

Paycheck Independence Day: Learn How to Use Your Paycheck to Stop Needing a Paycheck

My campaign with Smith Publicity was a huge success. They were able to help me establish credibility with all of the media work and now we are selling books everyday. I told my publicist that on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, she was an 11. I could not be happier with the work she did! Thanks for making this such a wonderful experience for me.

Most of Rood’s contracts ended after one or two years and unemployment became a frequent challenge in his life. He knew then that he had to become an expert on money management or he would not survive. Between 2004 and 2006, Rood figured out the right way to manage his money so he could eliminate his dependence on a paycheck and developed the Paycheck Independence Day money management system to solve this problem.

Outswimming the Sharks: Overcoming Adversities, Naysayers, and Other Obstacles to Lead a Meaningful Life

As a first time author, I was quite apprehensive about engaging a publicity firm. From the very first conversation, Smith Publicity understood my goals and the key messages I wanted to deliver with my book. My publicist worked with me for five months in building a superb campaign. Smith Publicity was extremely effective in generating interest, diligent in following up, and most importantly, getting coverage with the right audience. Working with the Smith Publicity team was a great experience and pure pleasure!

Marketing Concepts that Win!: Save Time, Money and Work Crafting Concepts Right the First Time

I had a great experience with Smith Publicity! I was a bit nervous given my less than acceptable experience with a prior firm. My publicist did a great job of snooping out new opportunities. I so enjoyed the unpredictable questions and the back and forth banter with co-hosts. It was a great way to leverage my ability to think on my feet and project my personality and sense of humor as well. The conversations I had with the hosts have encouraged my belief in my topic and broadened what I think my next book will be. Thanks again for all the great work. Clearly, Smith Publicity will be on the top of my list in the future.

The Mobile Marketing Handbook: A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Dynamic Mobile Marketing Campaigns

As a former owner of a book publicity firm, and now an author, I have to say that I was so impressed with Smith Publicity. They got a ton of media placements for my book. Frankly, I was surprised at how many they got in a short amount of time. My publicist was very professional and supportive of both me and my book. I could tell she really cared about how my campaign turned out.

I have worked twice with Smith Publicity and with Sandy Poirier Smith. In each case, Sandy provided thoughtful and expert advice on strategy and content. My publicist produced spectacular results. The Black Quarterback Syndrome: How to Succeed as a First or Pioneer in an Organization

I enjoyed my time with Smith Publicity and especially my publicist. Within a rather short period of time I sensed a deep commitment to me as a client and could see her dogged, professional perseverance. Smith did what they said they were going to do. Further, they actually seemed sincerely interested in the concepts of my book, not just because it was their job to show interest but there was an ‘America needs this’ kind of interest. My campaign was a team-collaboration, they had a team yes, but it was also a close collaboration with me … and they listened. I’m the kind of guy who never stops thinking about the monthly fee and the ticking meter but I am so glad that after a year of painstaking research I finally selected Smith!

Dollars & Uncommon Sense: Basic Training For Your Money

I am very thankful that I was recommended to use Smith Publicity to promote my book Dollars & Uncommon Sense. From the initial phone consultation, to the proposal and finally the execution of the plan, it couldn’t have gone any smoother. My publicist’s determination, creativity, and the ability to think outside the box was crucial in securing major national television opportunities such as Fox & Friends, The 700 Club, and also to include international exposure in Canada. In less than six months, her hard work and persistent follow-up resulted in my work being featured in over 50 publications nationwide and interviews by over 20 national, international, and regional radio programs.

To me, my company is divided into two phases—the days before working with Smith Publicity—and the days since. What a valuable tool to have in an author’s arsenal!

The Inspiration Factor: How You Can Revitalize Your Company Culture in 12 Weeks

Smith Publicity’s new tag line needs to read, ‘we make author’s dreams come true.’ Before coming to Smith Publicity I was dead last in my category in the search engines. The links to my website from the various blogs and online publications Smith procured for me has caused a 300% increase in unique visitors, driving book sales and speaking engagements. Smith has given me a new context for TGIF… It has nothing to do with the end of a week. It has everything to do with my much anticipated publicity report from Smith that is always chock-full of newly placed articles and upcoming radio and TV Interviews. I consider my investment in Smith Publicity as an investment into building my personal brand that will yield fantastic returns for a long time to come.

Don’t F**k It Up: How Founders and Their Successors Can Avoid the Clichés That Inhibit Growth

I had the pleasure to work with the professionals at Smith Publicity to help promote my first book. Having not done this before I didn’t know what to expect. My publicity team spent the time to learn more about me and my DNA. They customized an approach that was suited perfectly for me and encouraged me to more clearly position my expertise. They relentlessly pursued relevant opportunities in the press and media to publicize my book and myself and introduced me to opportunities I never would have found on my own. Their hard work is still providing dividends today.

Well, the confusion ended when I met the excellent team at Smith Publicity. She worked almost 24/7 to open big doors for me. There was hardly a closing time as she responded to questions as soon as I asked them regardless of what day or time it was. I definitely recommend the Smith Publicity team and credit them for the amazing work they did with my book – What Color is Your Money?

The best part, though? As with most things, it’s the people. The staff at Smith Publicity are, hands down, the most professional, competent, positive, sweet, caring, and downright fun people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Smith Publicity will forevermore be my go-to company for all my publicity needs. 401(k) Day Trading: The Art of Cashing in on a Shaky Market in Minutes a Day

My experience with Smith Publicity has been nothing short of extraordinary due to their hard work, dedication, and knowledge of what works in the media world. My publicist’s creative talent, combined with her financial background, provided the perfect perspective for cleverly introducing my book, 401(k) Day Trading. In just a short time, she parlayed my first book touting a novel, but provocative, approach to managing retirement savings into television, radio, and print interviews for a previously unknown author. By crafting a brilliant campaign drawing on Smith’s extensive contacts, she was able to please one normally tough customer by surpassing even my wildest expectations with the attention she brought to my book.

Lately his word has been spreading through features on Fox Business, ReutersTV, TheStreet, Business Talk Radio, KMA, and KCBS, among other media outlets.

I came back to Smith Publicity because of their stellar customer service, attention to detail, accessibility and true care they put into knowing their client. Selling to the C-Suite: What Every Executive Wants You to Know About Successfully Selling to the Top

Smith Publicity knows this game. Within the first six months, I’ve been on national radio, primetime TV, and been written up in Forbes, USA Today, and the leading journals. Sales of my book Selling to the C-Suite spiked when Smith’s campaign started, keeping it in Amazon’s top five in-category and driving it off shelves to a second printing. If I were a recording artist, this is the same as ‘going Silver,’ with Platinum in my sights! It’s difficult to quantify the value, but when I consider the new accounts my consulting business signed this year, I’m confident ‘The Smith Effect’ was a factor in nearly half a million dollars of new business. That’s a stellar ROI in anyone’s language.

From start to finish, Smith Publicity’s team were generous with their time, expertise, and knowledge whether it was collaborating on the next steps, developing social media strategies or exhibiting my book at upcoming book events. They also were incredibly patient and responsive in answering my questions and I had many since I am a first-time self-published author. In short, Smith Publicity does a great job!

Empowering Young Christians: Developing Bible-Based Leadership and Soft Skills

I recently worked with Smith Publicity on a publicity campaign for my two self-published books. Their team devised an effective strategy to reach out to both the secular and Christian markets. I greatly enjoyed working with them, and they communicated frequently to keep me informed. In addition to being great to work with, their efforts produced radio and TV interviews. They also placed several of my articles on relevant, impactful, and high-traffic websites. Furthermore, I have been able to network with the contacts they provided, and this networking is producing additional publicity for my books and far-reaching professional opportunities for me. Overall, my experience with Smith Publicity has been strong and positive. Smith and team are competent, focused, and driven. They are delightful to work with. I highly recommend Smith Publicity.

Branding Is Sex: Get Your Customers Laid and Sell the Hell Out of Anything

My Smith Publicity team was ON FIRE, booking interviews for me with lots of target publications. My publicists were very creative in their placement and pitch ideas and have successfully positioned me to media and influencers as an expert in my field. The best compliment I could give is passing along this feedback from a radio host I talked to. He said: ‘I see you everywhere. I just knew I had to talk to you!’

Built to Sell: Turn Your Business Into One You Can Sell

Smith Publicity has far exceeded even the very high expectations I had when I hired them. The team at Smith consistently raised the bar higher in terms of the quantity and quality of media coverage they secure for me, including a full page, bylined article in TIME magazine’s international edition. There are many publicity and promotional firms out there, but look no further if you want the best—Smith Publicity is it.

The Payoff Principle: Discover the 3 Secrets for Getting What You Want Out of Life and Work

When researching possible publicity companies for my new book, The Payoff Principle: Discover the 3 Secrets for Getting What You Want Out of Life and Work, I interviewed representatives from several companies and received their proposals. The quality of the interview and the proposal from Smith Publicity immediately impressed me with its professionalism and personalization. And I know I made the right choice the moment we started working together.

My publicist was not only filled with great publicity ideas but she made it happen. My work has been featured in more high quality, high exposure, targeted publications and interviews than I ever expected. In fact, they’ve gotten me so many requests for articles and podcasts that it has been difficult to do all of them, which is a WONDERFUL problem. I have every confidence in Smith Publicity and would advise you to hire them as well.

Accounting Dreams & Delusions

My publicity team at Smith hit my campaign out of the park. This was my first book and I didn’t really know what kind of results to expect. My main publicist worked relentlessly to get me more opportunities for interviews and byline articles than I ever thought we would achieve. And the addition of the account manager brought the campaign even more focus! From their efforts, I was featured in Fortune.com and Investor’s Business Daily along with countless other outlets. I would 100% recommend Smith Publicity if you need to get the word out about your book, your expertise and your brand!

Beyond Engagement

Smith Publicity started producing results the minute we signed the contract with them. Part of it was their huge ‘get it’ factor. They safeguarded the essence of my message but amplified it and translated it so it caught the ears of all the right people. Many, many articles and radio interviews later we can say with unquestionable conviction, Smith delivered all they said they would and far, far more. Hire them!

The Five Hour Workday

I was referred to Smith Publicity by an associate with a long successful history in the publishing industry. I felt my book The Five Hour Workday was a naturally press friendly topic, and it supported the ‘work to live’ brand identity of my company, Tower Paddle Boards, so I decided to invest in a 4 month PR book launch and campaign with Smith Publicity.

The results of Smith Publicity’s PR campaign were beyond my expectations. In the U.S., I got a ton of local and niche press in radio, TV, print, and online. They also landed me four major national TV programs including CNN Money, Fox & Friends, CNBC Power Lunch, and The List. They also landed me a number of major podcasts including The Adam Corolla Show. My book was also covered in Fast Company, Forbes, INC, the Huffington Post, Business Insider, Mashable, and more.

I didn’t even ask Smith Publicity to pursue international coverage, but we ended up getting press in over 20 countries, with several major national newspapers, and I was even dubbed ‘World’s Best Boss’ in one. With the rise of the international interest, and the success of Smith Publicity’s efforts, I decided to extend my PR contract with them 2 additional months to fully leverage the newly discovered international interest. In the process, I had several reality TV production companies approach me about doing a TV show around The Five Hour Workday.

Successful Selling Tips for Introverted Authors

I want to commend Smith Publicity for a job well done. Wow! I’m blown away by how much we’ve been able to accomplish together in such a short amount of time. My publicists were collaborative, adaptable, and consummate professionals during every single interaction—whether by telephone or through email—and they are both highly skilled at choosing the best media outlets to match the intended message and audience.

Thank you for the number of writing opportunities you produced during this campaign. I love to write, but it was great to have you on my team when I hit those couple of mental blocks and could write no more. What a wonderful problem to have—too many articles and interviews attached to too many different outlets for me to possibly keep them all straight. Fantastic! I’m so pleased with this campaign and so grateful to Smith Publicity for all you’ve done to help me launch my new book. Thank you for everything. I’ll definitely use your services again in the future.

There is nothing more anxiety-provoking, especially to a first-time author, than to try and figure out how to navigate the totally unknown and sometimes choppy waters of getting the word out for your new book. Securing book reviews and media coverage is a unique tactical challenge. I was lucky enough to meet the folks from Smith Publicity at just the right moment–about eight months prior to my book launch. They held my hand through the whole process as they calmly and masterfully built and then executed my campaign. It helps to have experience on your side, and the team at Smith has it. They get amazing results!
